About Dr. SaxLove
Hi, I'm Mark Maxwell, aka Dr. SaxLove. I'm a saxophonist, composer, and recording artist living over here near Detroit. You can learn more about me and my music if you want to on my Mark Maxwell Music website.
I learned pretty early in life that my calling was music and that I had a mission: To help uplift the spirit of humankind with the sweet and mellow sound of the saxophone.
I know I’m blessed in life - after all, I get to be a sax player and make music that helps people feel good. I'm a strong believer in the power to the saxophone to heal - I been watching it all my life - people just feel better when they hear a good saxophone.
I've performed and recorded with many remarkable musicians over the years: Garth Webber (Miles Davis, Robben Ford, Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Raitt), Tony Lufrano (Elvin Bishop, Taj Mahal, Todd Rundgren), Steve Weingart (Chaka Khan, Eric Marienthal, Ernie Watts, Warren Hill, John Pattituci, Dave Weckl), Red Young (Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Sonny & Cher, Dolly Parton, Eric Burdon), Mike Valerio (Los Angeles Philharmonic), Craig Woods (Ray Charles, Brian Seltzer) and many others. I've also performed the National Anthem at a Laker game twice.
It's kind of funny: I was born into a family of sax players (my mother and sister played the saxophone, and my brother, Phil, is still a performing saxophonist). I've always been surrounded by music and musical instruments. Growing up, we always had a pianos, guitars, and a saxophone in the house. The truth is that I have saxophone in my blood.
It's my sincere hope that the music that flows through me helps uplift you and relax you, helps make you mellow and romantic, and helps you just feel better.
Much love to you!
